Leading Investment Funds Expert James Wang Joining Jingtian

Jingtian & Gongcheng ("Jingtian") is delighted to announce the addition of leading investment funds expert James Yong Wang to the firm.

 

James specialises in investment funds/asset management and PE/VC investment and financing. He worked at three leading international law firms in the U.S. (New York and Chicago) and China offices and one Chinese law firm for about 18 years and was among the very few Chinese who ever made equity partner in the U.S. headquarters of an international law firm.

 

James has been consistently recognized by many leading global legal directories and media such as Chambers, IFLR, Who's Who Legal, Legal 500, Asialaw Leading Lawyers, Asialaw Profiles, The Asian Lawyer, China Business Law Journal and LEGALBAND as leading authority on Investment Funds/Private Funds or Private Equity/Venture Capital (Tier 1). He was also named as market leader for investment funds in China by the London-based Legal Media Group's Global Expert Guides for Banking, Finance and Transactional Law each year for 2015-2019.

James received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Columbia Law School in the U.S. and his LL.B. and B.A. in German Studies from Peking University in China. He also studied international and private equity taxation in the LL.M. program at New York University School of Law.

 

In the Investment Funds/Asset Management field, James represented many international and domestic fund clients and asset managers in raising over 1,000 private RMB, USD and hybrid funds and asset management schemes involving capital in excess of RMB 400 billion (or US$60 billion equivalent), covering funds of various types such as PE/VC funds, hedge funds, buyout funds, sector funds such as real estate/health care/culture & entertainment/infrastructure funds, funds of funds, secondary funds and GP stake funds.

 

James also represents many PE/VC firms, asset managers and corporates in both domestic and overseas investment and financing transactions, M&A, foreign direct investment, privatization of overseas listed Chinese companies, "red-chip" return transactions, VIE structuring and capital markets transactions and has been involved in many high-profile transactions.

 

James serves on the expert panel of Insurance Asset Management Association of China (IAMAC) as well as IAMAC's first expert review panel for equity investment schemes and insurance private fund products and the expert review committees for both the QFLP Pilot Program and QDLP Pilot Program administered by the Shanghai Financial Services Office and major government guidance funds such as Xia'men Municipal Industrial Guidance Fund and is frequently consulted by China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), Asset Management Association of China (AMAC) and IAMAC on various legislative initiatives. Every year since 2013, James was commissioned by leading London-based legal publisher Law Business Research (LBR) to author the China Fundraising Chapter of its annual Private Equity Review. James is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
