Dr. ZHANG Guanglei is an equity partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng.  Dr. Zhang earned his degrees of LL.B., LL.M. and Ph.D. in Law from China University of Political Science & Law. During his time in the US, he obtained his LL.M. degree from The George Washington University Law School and was also a visiting scholar at Columbia University Law School.  Dr. Zhang has been admitted to practice law in the PRC and the State of New York.  He is a native mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.

Dr. Zhang specializes in dispute resolution, with extensive experience and a well-established reputation in civil and commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation.  He was identified as one of Top 10 Outstanding Young Lawyers by CLECSS in 2018, China’s Elite 100 Lawyers (The A-List PRC Lawyers) by China Business Law Journal in 2020, and China’s Top 15 Litigators by Asian Legal Business in 2021.  In 2019, Jingtian & Gongcheng, as the winner among law firms in Beijing, won second place in the final of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) International Arbitration Moot Competition, in which Dr. Zhang, as team leader, was awarded the Best Speaker in all the rounds of this competition.

Dr. Zhang has represented clients in hundreds of cases before China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission and its branches, Beijing International Arbitration Centre, Shanghai International Arbitration Centre, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, Zhuhai Court of International Arbitration, HKIAC, ICC International Court of Arbitration, and courts of different levels in China, which involved a variety of industries, such as real estate, finance, securities, international trade, pharmaceuticals, financial leasing, environmental protection, culture and tourism, education, telecommunication, credit investigation, internet and manufacturing.

Dr. Zhang especially specializes in resolution of disputes arising from investment and financing, and has managed to resolve a variety of disputes involving value adjustment mechanism, share transfer, corporate controlling power, liabilities of directors and managers, employees stock options, funds raising and management, etc.  In addition, he has extensive experience in planning comprehensive strategies for cross-border disputes, and also acted as PRC law counsel and expert witness in lawsuits and arbitrations in the US, Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong, etc.

Dr. Zhang has represented clients in many leading cases.  Among others, “Tuniu” trademark infringement litigation case was accredited as annual top 10 IP cases by Beijing High People’s Court; in an arbitration case on controlling power of a listed company, he managed to help the client win the controlling power, which matters economic interests equivalent to around RMB one billion; in an arbitration case on value adjustment mechanism of a target company, he successfully achieved a settlement and helped a leading Asian fund exit with a return equal to tens of millions US dollars, which was also the first profitable exit among a number of Chinese and foreign leading investors.

While practising law, Dr. Zhang is acting as: arbitrator of HKIAC, Shanghai International Arbitration Centre, Hainan International Arbitration Court, and Zhuhai Court of International Arbitration; senior researcher at Institute of Arbitration, Xi’an Arbitration Commission; adjunct professor at School of Law, University of International Business and Economics; adjunct professor at School of Juris Master, China University of Political Science & Law; and board member of Beijing Society of Entertainment Law.
