Eric Zou is a Partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng, with a master degree from Peking University Law School. He is a veteran in the field of investment funds/asset management with over 10 years’ working experience, represented many private/retail fund managers, securities firms, insurance asset managers, banks, wealth management subsidiaries, etc. in their formation of hundreds of funds/asset management products (including QDII funds), provided legal services for pension products and insurance funds investments, and advised custodians and fund service providers (e.g., fund distributors and fund administrators) for their business operation.

Eric represented many clients in their establishment of such financial institutions as retail fund managers and securities firms, and their equity transfer and corporate governance, represented many private fund managers (including WFOE PFMs) in their registration with the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC), and provided legal services to many global financial institutions and hedge fund managers for their cross-border business, including but not limited to WFOE/JV establishment, overseas investment of insurance funds, QFII/RQFII, QDII/QDLP/QDIE, mutual recognition of funds (MRF) and other connect schemes between Mainland China and Hong Kong.

Eric handled many innovative and cutting-edge projects, including the 1st foreign-controlled retail fund manager, one of the 1st contractual QDLP funds, three of the 1st QDIE funds, several deals involving the 1st QFII/RQFIIs investing in private funds and participating in margin trading & short selling, and one of the 1st QDLP license holders in Beijing.

Eric participated in many legislative surveys, research projects, seminars and other activities organized by CSRC (the securities regulator in China), AMAC, Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA), Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), Global Asset Management Association of Lujiazui (GAMAL), etc.

Eric was awarded by China Business Law Journal as Rising Star 2021, which recognizes 40 young elite lawyers under the age of 40 for their outstanding contributions in China-related practice.
