Mr. Dong is a partner at Jingtian & Gongcheng. He is dual-qualified in China and the United States of America (New York).
Mr. Dong holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Law and a Master of Laws from China University of Political Science and Law, as well as an LL.M. in American Law from Boston University.
He joined Jingtian & Gongcheng in 2006 and was promoted to partner in 2008. Prior to that, he served as counsel at the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) for three years.
Mr. Dong has represented clients in hundreds of litigation cases before courts at all levels across China, including the Supreme People’s Court. He also has extensive experience in arbitration proceedings administered by CIETAC, Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Court (BAC/BAC), Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), HKIAC, ICC, SIAC, and others. His cases have spanned a broad range of sectors, including trade, investment, banking and finance, real estate, construction, energy, product liability, and intellectual property.
In addition, Mr. Dong has served as a legal advisor or PRC law expert in litigation and arbitration proceedings in the United States, Singapore, the Cayman Islands, and Hong Kong.
Mr. Dong is a Council Member and Appointments Committee Member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). He is also on the panels of arbitrators for HKIAC, CIETAC, BAC/BIAC, Shanghai Arbitration Commission, SCIA, Chongqing Arbitration Commission, Nanchang Arbitration Commission, Zhuhai Arbitration Commission, CAA International Arbitration Centre, and several other institutions. He has been appointed as arbitrator in over 400 domestic and international arbitration cases. His arbitral awards have been selected for inclusion in CIETAC’s official publications, including Selected Arbitration Cases on Equity Transfers, Compilation of Financial Arbitration Cases, and Compilation of Construction Arbitration Cases.
Mr. Dong is active in academic and professional organizations. He is a Council member and Deputy Secretary-General of the China Business Law Society, a master student supervisor at Peking University School of Law and China University of Political Science and Law, the Vice President of CIETAC Cup Alumni Association, the Vice Chairman of the Education and Training Committee of the Beijing Lawyers Association, and an Independent Director and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of UBS SDIC Fund Management Co., Ltd.
He also serves on the Editorial Board of the CBLS Business Law Review. His academic contributions include articles published in Collected Theses of Private International Law, Arbitration and Law, Chinese Arbitration and Judicature, and Arbitration in Beijing. He is the author of the China Chapter in Global Legal Group’s International Comparative Legal Guide: International Arbitration (2009) and has contributed the China Chapter to Lexology Getting the Deal Through: Arbitration annually since 2021.
Mr. Dong has been consistently recognized as a leading lawyer in litigation and arbitration by Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, Asia Law & Practice, Who’s Who Legal, and LEGALBAND. He was named one of China’s Top 100 Lawyers by China Business Law Journal from 2016 to 2019, and one of China’s Top 15 Litigators by Asian Legal Business in 2018. He has been recognized as a Dispute Star in China by Benchmark Litigation since 2018.
